WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Second-ranked Lindsey Wilson men’s basketball dropped their first game of the season to No. 18 Cumberlands 86-61. The Patriots first half 27-7 run and an efficient 62.2 percent shooting percentage from the floor proved too much for LWC to handle.
The Blue Raiders (18-1, 4-1 Mid-South Conference) struggled from the floor as they recorded a season lows in field goal percentage (32.8), assists (4), points (61) and field goals made (19). The Patriots (16-3, 4-1 MSC) offense produced one of their best performances of the season shooting 58.3 percent from the floor, their second highest shooting percentage this season. Cumberlands also found their touch from beyond the arc, shooting their highest three-point percentage of the season at 62.5 percent hitting 10-of-16 attempts.
Bryan Wallace scored a game-high 24 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc and a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Wallace added six rebounds and two steals. Charles Sutton was the only other Blue Raider in double figures with 15 points. Pepper Ben Ofokile added a team-high eight rebounds.
Lindsey Wilson opened the contest on a 7-3 run, but a quick 6-2 run by the Patriots brought things to a 9-9 tie early in the first half. From there the two teams traded baskets until the 11:52 mark, as the Blue Raiders found themselves trailing by just two points at 19-17. That prompted a 27-7 run by Cumberlands that lasted just over ten minutes and gave the Patriots a 46-25 lead with just 1:32 to go in the half. Both teams scored five points apiece during the final minute, giving Cumberlands a 51-30 lead at the break.
