Lindsey Wilson Women’s Basketball Pulls Off The Win

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.- The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson women’s basketball team picked up a 57-47 Mid-South Conference victory over Cumberlands (Ky.) on Saturday at the O. Wayne Rollins Center.

Three Blue Raiders (15-3, 3-1 MSC) were in double figure led by Kayla Styles who recorded her 10th double-double of the season scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing a game-high 16 rebounds. Teanna Curry added 14 points while Reagan Turner chipped in with 13 and connected on all four of her attempts at the charity stripe. Lindsey Wilson outshot the Patriots (13-5, 2-3 MSC) 37.7 percent to 36.5 and limited them to just 2-of-16 shooting from beyond the arc. The Blue Raiders held a slight 34-30 edge in rebounds.

After a Curry basket to begin the first quarter, Cumberlands took the lead with a 5-0 run with 7:05 to play in the quarter. The Blue Raiders closed out the first quarter on a 10-4 run propelled by Styles who scored seven during that stretch to take a 12-9 lead into the second quarter. Lindsey Wilson shot 5-of-16 in the first quarter while the Patriots shot 3-of-9.

Cumberlands cut the Blue Raiders lead to 12-11 before Lindsey Wilson scored six of the next eight points to extend its lead to 18-13 with 5:28 to play in the half. The Blue Raiders closed out the first half with a 7-3 run taking a 27-20 lead into halftime.

Styles had 12 points at the half while Curry added eight. Lindsey Wilson shot 10-33 while Cumberlands was 8-of-22 in the first half. The Blue Raiders grabbed 18 rebounds in the half and the Patriots recorded 15.

Lindsey Wilson opened the third quarter on a 10-4 run to increase its lead to 37-26 with 4:28 remaining in the third. The Patriots cut the lead back to single digits with a quick 4-0 run to make it 37-30. Turner hit a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left in the quarter to give Lindsey Wilson a 39-30 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Patriots went on a 10-5 run in the fourth to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead down to 46-40 with 5:33 left. The Blue Raiders extended their lead back to nine scoring five of the next seven points taking a 51-42 lead with 3:18 remaining. Lindsey Wilson scored six of the final nine points to secure the 57-47 victory.

Cheyenne Madden led the way for the Cumberlands recording a double-double with a team-high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Shayla Simpson added 12 points while Kayla Bruner chipped in with 11.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Monday when they host Fisk (Tenn.) at 6 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center.
