On Friday April 27th, 2018 at approximately 10:32 pm, Adair County 911 received a call of a unresponsive female at Kozy Cabins off of Hwy 55 South.
Adair EMS, along with Adair County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Columbia Police Deptarment responded to the scene and located 46 year old Penni Smyth of Austin, Kentucky not breathing. Emergency personal attempted to resuscitate the female, but were not successful. Smyth was pronounced dead at TJ Heath Hospital by Deputy Coroner Tony Bragg. Her body was sent for an autopsy.
During the course of the investigation on the scene, officers located and confiscated an illegal moonshine still along with approximately nine gallons of moonshine from John and Peggy Haskieill, owners of Kozy Cabins.
The investigation is ongoing with charges pending.
Deputy Josh Durbin is investigating with assistance from Sheriff Harrison Moss and Officer’s Cole and Brockman with the Columbia Police Department.
