U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield announced Wed. that the Edmonton Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded a $175,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration

The fire department received the grant through the Operations and Safety program. These funds may be used for training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.

These grants aim to enhance first responders’ ability to protect the health and safety of the public with respect to fire-related hazards

Thurs. March 18

An inmate has escaped in Marion County

45-year-old James H. Shell escaped from the Marion County Detention Center on Wed. at approximately 2:30PM EDT while on work release at the Marion County Animal Shelter. Shell is a 5’9", 250 pound, white male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is a diabetic and does require medication. Shell was being held for Flagrant Non Support. His direction of travel and mode of transportation are unknown at this time. If anyone has contact with Shell or information regarding his whereabouts, please contact the Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555.

Wed. March 17

The A.C. School Board will meet in regular session Thurs. night at 7pm at the board of educ. conference room.

Items on the Agenda include:

recognition of the veteran's diploma recipient, approval of early graduation request, presentation of Plan/Explore results, a report on safe schools assessments, and consideration of invoice for special Nickel Tax election.

The meeting is open to the public.

Wed. March 17

Preliminary statistics indicate that nine people died in eight separate crashes on Kentucky roadways from Monday, March 8 through Sunday, March 14, 2010.

All of the crashes involved motor vehicles and seven of those victims were not wearing seat belts. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Boone, Fayette, Hardin, Jefferson, Lincoln, McCracken and Whitley counties.

One double-fatality crash occurred in Clay County and alcohol involvement is suspected as a contributing factor.

Through March 14, 114 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2010. This is 31 less fatalities than reported for the same time period in 2009.

Tues March 16

The Friends of Green River Lake, a Non-Profit Organization, recently held its first meeting. Board advisors were elected and on Thursday March 18th, a 2nd organizational meeting will be held at the Green River Lake Visitor’s Center 7:00pm EST 6:00CT. Any interested parties that were unable to attend or are still unsure of the benefits that this group can provide the community are urged to attend. Refreshments and a light snack will be served.

Tues. March 16th

On March 13,2010 at approximately 10:00am Chief Deputy Bruce McCloud
discovered a meth lab in a barn located just off of Bridgewater Road in the
Kellyville area of Adair County.The Kentucky State Police Hazmat Team was
called to the scene to clean up the lab.Deputy McCloud was assisted by
Trooper Jamie Richards with Post 15.No arrests have been made at this time
but the investigation continues by Chief Deputy Bruce McCloud with the Adair
County Sheriff's Department.

Mon. March 15

A Metcalfe Co. man was arrested on numerous charges over the weekend following a 68 mile high speed pursuit that traveled through 5 counties.

When police in Hardin County tried to stop 34 year old Ollie Campbell of Edmonton, he fled and was pursued by Elizabethtown Police, KSP Post 4 and the Hardin County Sheriff's Office.

Assistance was also later requested from KSP Post 3 and Munfordville Police.

The pursuit went through five counties including Hardin, Larue, Hart, Barren, and Metcalfe traveling at speeds of 80 to 100 miles per hour on I-65 and KY 70.

A collision at the end of Jimmy Hubbard Road in Metcalfe County caused Campbell to flee on foot before being apprehended.

Campbell was arrested on numerous charges and is lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.
