The Farm Service Agency reminds farmers the final date to complete a crop acreage report for the 2013 crop year is July 15.  Farmers who participate in U.S. Department of Agriculture programs through the Farm Service Agency should file a crop acreage report annually to retain program eligibility.  Farms that fail to file an acreage report timely will be charged a late filing fee after July 15 to remain eligible for USDA benefits.  FSA also reminds farmers that the 2013 DCP program signup continues through August 2.

Preliminary statistics* indicate that 18 people died in 17 separate crashes on Kentucky’s roadways from Monday, June 10 through Sunday, June 16, 2013.
 
One double-fatality motor vehicle crash occurred in Pike County. Both victims were not wearing seat belts and the crash involved the suspected use of alcohol.
 
Two single-fatality, motor vehicle crashes occurred in Scott County. One of the crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.
 
Two single-fatality, motor vehicle crashes occurred in Trigg County. One of the victims was not wearing a seat belt.
 
One single-fatality, motor vehicle crash occurred in each of the following counties: Boone, Daviess, Gallatin, Jessamine, Laurel, Lewis, Madison, Pike and Shelby. The victims in Jessamine, Laurel, Pike, and Shelby counties were not wearing seat belts. The crash in Laurel County involved the suspected use of alcohol.
 
One single-fatality, motorcycle crash occurred in each of the following counties: Calloway, Grant and Laurel. The victims in Calloway and Grant counties were not wearing helmets.
 
Through June 16, preliminary statistics* indicate that 271 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2013. This is 73 less than reported for this time period in 2012.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
