Detective Jamie Richard and Arson Investigator Alex Wesley are investigating a fatal fire that occurred Fri. night in Knifley.

Post 15 Columbia received a call at 11:46 p.m. from Adair County Dispatch advising that they had received a call of a fire at 8601 Knifley Road. Upon arrival, Fire Department Personnel discovered a male subject inside the residence deceased. The victim, 23 year old Richard Marrapodi of Columbia, was pronounced deceased by the Adair County Coroner. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however, no foul play is suspected at this time. An autopsy has been scheduled in Louisville and the results are pending at this time. This investigation is continuing.

Trooper Fred Cornett is investigating a one vehicle fatal collision that occurred at approximately 2:50 a.m. on Sat. morning, 2 miles north of Willisburg on KY 53. The collision occurred when 21 year old Michael Sallee was operating a 1995 Ford southbound on KY53. For unknown reasons, Sallee dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway, struck the guardrail and then a tree. Sallee was belted at the time of the collision. Sallee was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Washington County Coroner.

An inmate at the A.C. Restricted Custody Center on Hwy 55 North escaped from the faciity on Sat. and was apprehended a short time later.

19 year old James Whitaker of Russell Springs, who is classified as a "non-violent" offender", fled from the Center on Sat. and was back in custody 9 minutes after staff at the Center call 911.

Whittaker was lodged in the A.C. Jail and charged with Escape 2nd degree by Sgt. Gary Roy of the Columbia Police Dept.
