COLUMBIA, Ky. – Former Lindsey Wilson College men’s soccer midfielder Mutaya Mwape has signed a professional contract with the Charlotte Independence soccer team.
The Charlotte Independence is a member of the United Soccer League (USL), a United States Soccer Federation (US Soccer) Division II league, one tier below Major League Soccer (MLS).
In his two seasons at Lindsey Wilson, Mwape appeared in 34 matches racking up 25 goals and 19 assists. He accounted for 124 shots and six game-winning goals.
The Lusaka, Zambia native was a two-time First Team All Mid-South Conference selection and earned NAIA Second Team All-American honors following the 2017 season.
Last season, the Independence finished the year with a 13-9-10 (W-D-L) record as qualified as the fifth seed in the USL Cup Playoffs.

Mwape joins other former Blue Raiders in the USL including Shaun Francis (2007-09) and Lebogang Moloto (2009-12), who both recently moved to new clubs: Francis to Louisville City FC and Moloto to Nashville SC. The pair faces off this weekend as the USL regular season gets underway.
