COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 22-ranked Lindsey Wilson women’s soccer team travels to No. 1 Spring Arbor (Mich.) on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
The Blue Raiders (1-0) opened their season with a 1-0 victory against Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on Aug. 21. Emma Lindell scored the lone goal in the 34th minute after Sina Cavelti beat a pair of defenders near the end line. She played the ball back to Lindell who blasted a shot into the roof of the net. Eveljn Frigotto recorded her third career shutout stopping five Cougar shots. Lindsey Wilson was outshot 11-10 but held a 7-5 edge in shots on goal.
Spring Arbor (2-0-1) played to a 1-1 draw against No. 3 Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday. Trailing 1-0, Morgan Marshall tied the game in the 88th minute to send the game into overtime. The Cougars got outshot 9-8 with each team recording five shots on goal. On the season Spring Arbor is outscoring its opponents 12-2. Marshall ranks second in the NAIA in assists with four while Bethany Balcer ranks third in total points (12) and fourth in goals with five.
Saturday’s matchup is the 16th meeting between the two schools. Lindsey Wilson holds an 8-3-4 edge in the series. Spring Arbor has won the last three matchups including a 3-1 victory last season at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
