Friday the Cincinnati Reds announced the hiring of Derek Johnson as pitching coach on new Manager David Bell’s Major League staff.
Johnson spent the past three seasons in the same position with the Milwaukee Brewers, guiding the Brewers to the fourth-best ERA in the National League during that span.
Prior to joining Milwaukee, Johnson served as minor league pitching coordinator for the Chicago Cubs from 2013-2015.
Before joining the professional ranks, Johnson was pitching coach at Vanderbilt University from 2002-2012.
In his time with the Commodores, he mentored 13 pitchers who have gone on to appear in the Major Leagues, including All-Stars David Price and Sonny Gray.
