COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lou Bunning has earned Google Cloud Academic All-District Football honors, selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), the organization announced on Thursday.
Bunning earns the distinction based on his academic and athletic success. Bunning was selected from a pool of football student-athletes from NAIA institutions in District 2 — which includes institutions located in Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
First-team Academic All-District honorees are included on the ballot for the Google Cloud Academic All-America, selected in early December.
Bunning — who earns his second straight all-district honor — is one of seven offensive linemen on the 26-man team. He is a criminal justice major with a 3.75 GPA.
Bunning started four games at center for the Blue Raiders before suffering a season-ending injury. One of four team captains, Bunning helped the Lindsey Wilson offense average 40.8 points and 507.8 yards of total offense before the injury.
Student-athletes are nominated by their school’s sports information directors and voted on by CoSIDA members in their district. The nominees must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, be a sophomore or higher in academic standing and be a starter or important reserve on their respective teams.
Twelve Lindsey Wilson football student-athletes have earned all-district honors 20 times since 2013. Bunning is the sixth LWC football student-athlete to earn all-district honors multiple times.
