Following yesterday’s biennial leadership elections, the Kentucky House Republican Majority caucus announced its decision to elect Rep. Bam Carney as Majority Floor Leader for 2019-2020. Rep. Carney will begin his term at the start of the 2019 Regular Session.
“I am honored that my colleagues chose me for this new capacity, and it’s a privilege for me to serve Kentucky and the people of the 51st District,” said Rep. Carney. “I am proud of the gains we’ve made, particularly in education funding levels in Kentucky, but I’m also excited to get to work immediately to accomplish more for students and workers all over the Commonwealth.”
Rep. Carney, of Campbellsville, was first elected to serve the 51st District in 2009 and served in a leadership role previously as the Minority Whip in the Kentucky House. As the Chair of the House Education Committee, he has been very influential in working toward solvency of Kentucky’s public pension systems and historically high funding for education in the last budget.
The 2019 Regular Session will convene on January 8.
